What is Dengue Fever?
Dengue is caused by the bite of a species of mosquito called Aedes aegypti. These mosquitoes normally breed in water and are responsible for the spread of the dengue virus.
How is Dengue transmitted?

1.    A female Aedes mosquito bites and sucks blood containing the dengue virus from an infected person.
2.    The mosquito carries the virus in its body.
3.    And passes the virus to healthy people when it bites them.

Symptoms of Dengue Fever

1.    High Fever
2.    Severe headache
3.    Rashes
4.    Muscle & Joint pains
5.    Nausea
6.    Vomiting

If you find any of the above symptoms, contact your nearest hospital for treatment.

Prevention - The Best Way
There is no specific treatment for Dengue. So, the best way of tackling it is to eliminate its very existence. In addition, proper hygiene in and around the houses and avoiding collection of water in the backyard where the mosquito breeds, can really help checking this disease.
Six easy steps to prevent

  1. Remove all sources of stagnant water near the home and also clear water from flower pot plates on alternate days
  2. Turn over pails and water storage containers when not in use.
  3. Inform your parents in your household to cover bamboo pole holders when not in use.
  4. Change water in vases/ bowls on alternate days.
  5. Clear blockages and put BTI insecticide in roof gutters at least once a month
  6. Clear your waste bins regularly and avoid mosquitoes breeding
